Mr Smith’s Dream was commissioned by Manchester City Council for Copperas Street, in the Northern Quarter area of the city.
It was inspired by the long tradition of pet shops in the area. Mr Smith ran a famous pet shop here for many years, and this piece was based on a fictional dream he had one night,
to be followed by other fictional dreams had by his animals, such as the parrot’s dream and the sardine’s nightmare.
